History[]
2020 Tour (2020)[]
On 2 August 2019, the Six Australian Instagram account made its first post, teasing the existence of an Australian production.[1]. Teaser posts and tour dates were released over the course of the following four months. Casting was released on 12 November 2019, and featured Chloé Zuel (Aragon), Kala Gare (Boleyn), Loren Hunter (Seymour), Kiana Daniele (Cleves), Courtney Monsma (Howard), and Vidya Makan (Parr), with Ella Burns, Karis Oka, and Shannen Alyce Quan as swings.[2][3][4][5] The tour opened on 4 January 2020 at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the tour was forced to close early, cancelling all stops after Sydney.[6]
2021-23 Tour (2021-23)[]
A Facebook broadcast event was held on 21 June 2021, with the announcement of the tour's reopening dates, cast member interviews, followed by an acoustic performance of Ex-Wives.[7] Casting was announced the following day and featured Phoenix Jackson Mendoza (Aragon), Kala Gare (Boleyn), Loren Hunter (Seymour), Kiana Daniele (Cleves), Chelsea Dawson (Howard), and Vidya Makan (Parr), with Chiara Assetta, Karis Oka, and Shannen Alyce Quan as swings.
The initial premiere of November 2021 was pushed back to December 2021 (the same happening to other tour stop premieres) due to disruptions created by the Sydney lockdown and consequential measures put in place by state governments around border closures.[8] On 19 November 2021, the Ladies in Waiting were announced, with all previous ones returning except for Ali Foster, who had been succeeded by Alysa Portelli.
Finally, on 19 December 2021, the second Australian Tour had its opening show in Sydney.
On 19 February 2023, the Australian Tour had their last show for the run, in Brisbane.[9]
2024-25 Tour (2024-present)[]
On 28 November 2023, Six announced on their Facebook page that they were returning to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, beginning in August 2024.[10] On 14 May 2024, casting was announced and featured Kimberley Hodgson (Aragon), Deirdre Khoo (Boleyn), Loren Hunter (Seymour), Zelia Rose Kitoko (Cleves), Chelsea Dawson (Howard), and Giorgia Kennedy (Parr), with Chiara Assetta, Gabriella Boumford, Thalia Smith and Cristina D'Agostino as swings.[11][12]
On 2 August 2024, the tour had its opening show in Melbourne.
Trivia[]
- The 2020 and 2021-23 tours were the last productions to use the old fishnet design and original costumes.
- The Australian Tour is the third production to have a queen from another cast and country appear in their production.
- The first production to do this was the Broadway Production.
