History[]

Pre-Broadway Tour (2019)[]

Six had its North American premiere at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in Chicago, Illinois, on 14 May 2019. The cast consisted of Adrianna Hicks (Aragon), Andrea Macasaet (Boleyn), Abby Mueller (Seymour), Brittney Mack (Cleves), Samantha Pauly (Howard), and Anna Uzele (Parr), with Mallory Maedke and Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert as alternates. According to Chris Jones, the Chicago production was a likely Broadway tryout. The production broke box office records and its run at the theatre was eventually extended and a Broadway booking set for February 2020. The production additionally held engagements at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta, and the Ordway Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, before closing on 22 December 2019.

2020 Previews (2020)[]

Six began Broadway previews on 13 February 2020 at the Lena Horne Theatre (then known as the Brooks Atkinson Theatre) in New York City, New York. All of the original members of the Pre-Broadway Tour reprised their roles, with the addition of Courtney Mack as an alternate. On the day of its scheduled Broadway opening, 12 March 2020, all Broadway theatres were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cancelling its opening night,

2021-22 Production (2021-22)[]

In May 2021, it was announced that Six would resume in previews beginning on 17 September 2021. All of the cast members returned, with the addition of Keirsten Hodgens as an alternate. It became the first new musical to open on Broadway since the beginning of the pandemic. According to Variety, its opening night was both a celebration for Broadway theatre and a testament to the show's novel use of social media to propel it to international sensation pre-Broadway, especially among young people. In promotion of the show, the cast performed on numerous television shows including the 2021 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, and The View. The show had its official opening night on 3 October 2021.

Anna Uzele (Parr) departed the show on 13 March 2022, with Joy Woods serving as her replacement. Woods made her debut on 14 March 2022 alongside Keri René Fuller (who was serving as a temporary replacement for Abby Mueller (Seymour)). Mueller returned to the show on 8 May 2022. Adrianna Hicks (Aragon), Abby Mueller (Seymour) and Joy Woods (Parr) departed the show on 7 August 2022 (Woods departed a week earlier, on 31 July 2022), with Bre Jackson, Keri René Fuller, and Brennyn Lark serving as their replacements, respectively, with Ayla Ciccone-Burton and Holli' Conway joining as alternates.

A cast album of the original Broadway production was announced for 2022. The live recording from the opening night was released 6 May 2022.

Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss won a Tony Award for Best Original Score for SIX, while Gabriella Slade won the Tony Award for Best Costumes in a Musical. The cast also performed at the 2022 Tony Awards, with Mallory Maedke filling in for Abby Mueller, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the last minute.

The remaining original cast members and replacements; Bre Jackson (Aragon), Andrea Macasaet (Boleyn), Keri René Fuller (Seymour), Brittney Mack (Cleves), Samantha Pauly (Howard), Brennyn Lark (Parr), Mallory Maedke (Alternate/Dance Captain), Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert (Alternate), Courtney Mack (Alternate), and Keirsten Hodgens (Alternate), departed the show on 4 December 2022.
